Greyhounds need love too.

Greyhounds need love too.
Thornton, Colo – April is National Adopt-a-Greyhound month and there is no shortage of homeless greyhounds.
Each year thousands of retired racing greyhounds go homeless after their racing careers end. Friends of Retired Greyhounds, a Colorado 501(c)3 all volunteer nonprofit organization, takes in many of these retired racers until permanent homes can be found.
“We have placed hundreds of these amazing dogs in permanent homes over the years” said James Flanagan President of the friends organization. “Greyhounds adapt quickly to life off the track and turn into great lifelong family members.” he said. The organization has challenged itself to adopt out as many greyhounds as they can in the month of April to make way for more homeless greyhounds needing permanent homes from across the U.S.
The group will start a large adoption campaign in April featuring a greyhound adoption video and new website and will also host numerous meet -and- greet events across the Front Range where anyone can mingle with the greyhounds.
The Friends of Retired Greyhounds organization is slightly different than most adoption groups in Colorado due to their specialized training program for greyhounds. The Organization has partnered with a local prison and created an 8-week training and obedience program for the greyhounds. Inmates work with the retired racers to help them in their transition from professional athlete to professional couch potatoes and permanent family members.
About Friends of Retired Greyhounds
Founded in 2000 in Colorado, ForGreyhounds is an all volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit Greyhound rescue serving Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska and Kansas. Forgreyhounds is dedicated to cooperating with kennel operators and other adoption groups to place retired greyhounds in responsible, loving homes. Our organization works with veterinarians to insure that dogs adopted from FOR greyhounds are vaccinated, and in general good health before placing them in homes. In addition to this, we educate individuals and groups about greyhounds, their history, their lives as racing dogs, and our adoption program.
The group is always in need of volunteers, dog food and donations. For more information about Friends of Retired Greyhounds visit www.friendsofretiredgreyhounds.org or call James Flanagan 303-667-5122
